Americorps position: Adult Education Coordinator


This is a full time AmeriCorps position. AmeriCorps is a federal program that engages more than 75,000 Americans in intensive service each year at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country. 

This position provides direct service to members of the Madisonville neighborhood and surrounding communities through the management of MEAC's adult education program and other program support as needed.

Adult Education Program - 90%

The adult education program at Madisonville Education & Assistance Center provides free tutoring for individuals seeking to further their skills or to work toward their GED. 

This portion of the position includes the following responsibilities:
• Recruiting students for the program through community outreach
• Maintaining students and their files
• Coordinating and training volunteers
• Preparing materials
• Providing one-on-one and group instruction 
• Grading student work
• GED test scheduling 
• Maintaining relationships with partnering organizations 
• Documentation of student achievement
• Creating monthly reports

Other Program Support - 10%

The Madisonville Education and Assistance Center provides emergency assistance services to meet the immediate needs of our neighbors, as well as additional support to enable our neighbors to thrive.

This portion of the position includes the following responsibilities:
• Management of our Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank partnership program
• Support in our MEAC Marketplace, which includes intake, shopping with neighbors, and some sorting/stocking
• Support in seasonal MEAC programming including Thanksgiving food distribution and Happy Holiday shop

Ideal candidates are:
• Able to work independently
• Flexible
• Able to resolve conflict
• Comfortable speaking on the phone and to groups of adults
• Experienced in education, specifically adult education
• Able to move quickly from task to task
• Excellent with time management


As an AmeriCorps member, you will receive a stipend of $13,992 for the 11 months served, which is divided and dispersed every two weeks. After the completion of 1700 hours (approx. a 40-hour week) you will receive an education award of $6,095 that can be used to pay off federal student loans or for future education costs. Loan forbearance for federal student loans is available and so is health insurance at no cost to you. Child care reimbursement is offered for those who qualify. Qualifications: Minimum bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or other related humanities/social sciences field

Working Conditions:
Position may require some evening and weekend duties
